Architecture that Listens: Frida Escobedo
At La Valise Bacalar, immerse yourself in the vision of Frida Escobedo, one of Mexico's most celebrated architects. Her design rises lightly above the jungle floor, letting water flow and vegetation grow beneath, its timber structures wrapped in wooden screens that filter light and air.
Here, nothing was imposed on the land. Every volume stands among the existing trees, every material was chosen to age with the forest, and most of the site was simply left untouched. Experience a sanctuary where architecture listens to the jungle, offering a retreat as quiet and enduring as its setting.
The Jungle & Lagoon:
A Living Water Sanctuary
Within 36 hectares of protected jungle on the shores of the Bacalar lagoon, La Valise Bacalar sits along a natural corridor linking two nature reserves, where biodiversity is experienced at every step. Here the landscape shifts with the light rather than the seasons: fed by underground springs over a pale limestone bed, the Lagoon of Seven Colors moves through its many shades of blue as the water deepens, while the jungle holds its constant green.
Among trails, gardens and quiet shores, guests may spot spider monkeys crossing the canopy and a remarkable variety of birds moving between the two reserves. And beneath the surface of the lagoon live stromatolites, gentle formations kin to the earliest life on Earth, a quiet reminder that these waters hold something found almost nowhere else.

La Valise Bacalar offers a collection of distinctive spaces for intimate celebrations, private dinners, ceremonies, weddings, retreats, corporate gatherings and special events. The restaurant accommodates up to 60 guests for dinner, while the rooftop welcomes up to 150 guests for cocktails or 60 for a seated dinner. For more intimate occasions, the pier offers a unique setting for ceremonies or an imperial-table dinner for up to 20 guests. For retreats and group experiences, La Petanca is an open and versatile space surrounded by nature, accommodating up to 20 guests and equipped with a projector and audio system, providing an inspiring setting for workshops, wellness sessions and group activities.

Bacalar remains one of the few corners of the Mexican Caribbean where the community has chosen conservation over mass development, and La Valise Bacalar was conceived to honor that choice.
